The 14-year-old boys Mohamed and Layth were found murdered and dumped in the summer of 2023.
As a final piece of the puzzle in the investigation, the prosecutor appealed to get footage of the murder – but without success.
“Unfortunately, we still haven’t received any footage from the investigation,” says prosecutor Hanna Cardell.
The boys Mohamed and Layth were only 14 years old.
At the end of July 2023, Mohamed’s family began to sense that something was not right when they tried to get hold of their son – with no answer. Mohamed, who was placed in an HVB home, was reported missing.
A few days later he was found dead in a wooded area in Nynäshamn outside Stockholm. According to information given to Aftonbladet, he had knife wounds on his body.
Just a week or so later, 14-year-old Layth was found, who had also been reported missing. A few days before the murder, he was caught on a surveillance camera buying chips inside a small kiosk in Järfälla. And that may have been the last time Layth was seen alive.
Like Mohamed, Layth had also been placed in a HVB home.
The murder of Mohamed and Layth is connected to the Foxtrot network according to information to Aftonbladet. According to information, one of the police’s theories is that a group of several young people were hired to carry out missions for the Foxtrot network. But the suspicion is that the youths failed the missions and Layth and Mohamed, who were both part of the group, were kidnapped and murdered by the network.
Almost a year and a half has passed since the boys were found murdered in the Stockholm area. Two boys, placed in a HVB home, which would protect them from falling into the hands of a criminal network.
Prosecutor Hanna Cardell has been investigating the case for over a year. During that time, the investigation has grown and more people have been served with suspicion. Over time, the picture surrounding what happened to Mohamed and Layth has become more and more clear to the investigators.

Several accused of murder
The preliminary investigation is now out for final service and in February or March, Cardell hopes to be able to bring charges in the case for both murder and kidnapping. A third part of the case consists of preparation for murder against people other than Mohamed and Layth, but is connected with their murder.
– The preparations take place in the days before the murders and have a connection with what happens afterwards. It concerns preparation for the murder of a number of individuals who are not Mohamed or Layth and we have succeeded in identifying them, says Hanna Cardell.
During the course of the investigation, several people have been cleared of suspicion. A total of 21 people are now suspects in the case linked to Mohamed and Layth. Twelve of the people are suspected of having been involved in various ways in the murders and cannibalism.
– Some appear in several cases, but when it comes to the murders of Mohamed and Layth, charges and evidentiary proceedings will be brought against five people regarding the kidnapping and murder of Mohamed and against nine people in the Layth case, says Hanna Cardell.
Two people appear in both investigations.
– There are people in both the murders and the kidnapping who will be charged with preparation for murder, says Hanna Cardell.

Children under 15 involved
The investigation includes several young people and children as young as 15. Hanna Cardell will bring a so-called evidentiary suit against them. It is about a total of three people.
– Two of the people are suspected of preparation for murder and one is suspected of kidnapping and aiding and abetting the murder of Layth. They were between 13 and 15 years old at the time of the acts, says Hanna Cardell.
Earlier this fall, Hanna Cardell said the investigation was nearing its conclusion but that one final piece of the puzzle was still missing – footage from the day of the murder. Early in the investigation, Hanna Cardell received information that both murders had been filmed.
So that’s why she appealed to the public and the criminal world earlier this summer – send in the footage. The investigators had then seized several mobile phones but had not yet been able to find the videos.
A few months later, the status is the same.
– Unfortunately, we still have not received any films in the investigation, says Hanna Cardell.
