Blizzard has started testing the 6v6 game mode for Overwatch 2. However, it remains unclear whether this mode will be permanent or not.
Blizzard responds to fan requests Overwatch 2 Started testing 6v6 game mode for. The game’s switch to the 5v5 format was criticized by many players, and this new test is considered a return to classic gameplay. However, there is no clear statement yet on whether 6v6 will be permanent in Overwatch 2. Blizzard emphasizes that the success of this mode depends on player feedback.
What Changes in Overwatch 2 6v6 Mode?
Blizzard is focusing on reducing long queue times, which is one of the biggest complaints of players in the new 6v6 mode. Game director Aaron Keller explained that they developed a system during the team formation process with a minimum of one and a maximum of three players from each role. This regulation aims to shorten queue times, especially caused by the intense interest in the DPS role.
Fans’ interest in this testing process once again demonstrated the popularity of the 6v6 mode. However, for this mode to be permanently added to Overwatch 2, Blizzard needs to work more on character balance and game mechanics. Returning to the 6v6 format requires undoing the changes made to the characters for 5v5 and further fine-tuning.
Blizzard continues to collect players’ feedback on the 6v6 mode. This testing period will last until January 6, 2025, and players’ feedback will be decisive on the future of the mode. The company has not yet made a decision on whether this mode will be made permanent.
Meanwhile, players can switch between both classic 6v6 and 5v5 formats. While Blizzard responds to the community’s wishes with this trial, it takes an important step to determine the future direction of Overwatch 2. If the 6v6 mode becomes permanent, it may be possible for Overwatch 2 to regain its old fans.
