Of course, we know the essential advice such as not going for the petit fours, avoiding excess bread with cheese, serving only once, drinking sparkling water, taking breaks, limiting consumption. of alcohol… But there are also solutions for afterwards.

Among these, betaine citrate, a star drug to accelerate digestion, infusions also made from ready-to-use plants “special digestion” or “light digestion”, fennel seeds… and then oils essential. Essential oils are practical, pleasant to use and natural remedies. But be careful, just because it’s “natural” doesn’t mean it’s risk-free. You must always exercise great caution when using essential oils, respecting the dosages given by specialists.

Sophie Pihan, naturopath and member of the French Federation of Naturopathy (FENA), recommended a particular essential oil to use for “find comfort” after a copious meal that is heavy to digest. This is peppermint essential oil. It is a digestive tonic and an intestinal anti-inflammatory. In short, one of the best essential oils supporting digestion and improving the symptoms of dyspepsia (difficulty digesting). It fights against flatulence, nausea and vomiting.

“It should preferably be used for self-massage but it can also be administered orally at the rate of one drop well diluted in a fatty substance or on a neutral tablet. For children, lemon hydrosol will be preferred”, advises the alternative medicine practitioner. To perform the belly massage, mix a drop of peppermint essential oil with a tablespoon of vegetable oil, such as sweet almond, avocado or jojoba oil. Heat the mixture in the palm of your hands and massage the stomach clockwise (direction of digestion).

Peppermint essential oil should not be given to children, as it is prohibited for pregnant and breastfeeding women. People with asthma and epilepsy should seek medical advice before using essential oils.
