Carry-On is about airport employee Ethan Kopek (Taron Egerton), who has to prove himself at the security check for the first time on Christmas Eve. In doing so, he intervenes with a stranger who wants to get him to waving through a mysterious suitcase. If Ethan doesn’t comply, the well-informed mastermind threatens to cause serious harm to him or his girlfriend.

According to reactions, Carry-On reminds many fans of the action classic Die Hard – and is apparently just as effective as a Christmas film: According to Netflix, the thriller by Jaume Collet-Serra (Jungle Cruise) for the best film debut on the streaming service in 2024 developed. It reached 42 million hits in just three days and shot to number 1 on the Netflix film charts in a total of 93 countries.
In contrast, neither an extremely intense action masterpiece from 2022 nor one of what many consider to be the best films of the current year have a chance: Tom Cruise’s jet epic Top Gun: Maverick has to make do with second place, the disturbing war film Civil War with seventh place.
