The Christmas and New Year holidays often mean that many people go on trips, whether it’s a train trip or a plane trip. Arlanda Airport now warns that some mistakes can be expensive.

Prepare well
Arlanda’s airport manager Karl Eklund urges everyone who is going to travel to be well prepared.
– I want to encourage everyone to prepare for the trip by checking when we recommend that you come to Arlanda and, once there, go straight to a check-in machine to pick up a luggage tag. Together, we can save a lot of time and contribute to a smoother flow both for ourselves and our fellow travelers, says Karl Eklund in a statement to Swedavia Airports.

Small mistakes can be expensive
Many may choose to pack Christmas food and wrapped packages with them, which can create unexpected problems.
– Many people bring herring, Jansson’s temptation and other Christmas food, but keep in mind that liquids in packages over 100 milliliters may not pass the security check, warns Karl Eklund.
He also points out that if food starts to leak and destroy other people’s luggage, you may be liable for compensation.

Think about how you pack your Christmas presents
Wrapped Christmas presents can also cause problems, if they are in hand luggage and need to be checked, they may also need to be opened, something you would prefer to avoid.
– If the security inspectors cannot see what the gift contains, they may be forced to open it, and we would prefer to do that at the tree on Christmas Eve, says Karl Eklund.
He recommends packing Christmas cloaks in checked-in luggage.
