Slovakias Fico came to Moscow for Putins escape News

Robert Fico ended military aid to Ukraine after becoming prime minister in October last year

Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Ficon was reported to have arrived on a surprise visit to Russia on Sunday. Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov said Fico was having discussions with the Russian president Vladimir Putin with in the Kremlin.

Peskov did not elaborate on the content of the discussions, but said he believed that Russian gas supplies would be on the agenda, among other things. According to Peskov, the visit was agreed upon only a few days ago.

Ukraine has announced that it does not intend to renew the agreement that allowed Russian gas to be delivered to Europe through Ukraine when the agreement expires at the turn of the year. Slovakia and Hungary could thus lose their gas supply.

Fico ended military aid to Ukraine after becoming prime minister in October last year. Fico, as well as his Hungarian colleague Viktor Orbán, have supported the start of peace negotiations.
