Dad in Örebro got angry with son – left him on the road

The boy had neither a jacket nor a mobile • The father admits in interrogation: “Brutal blunder”

It was one evening in September that a man in Örebro started arguing with his ten-year-old son. When the fight escalated, the father allegedly said they were going for a ride in the car, according to the report N.A.

But in the middle of the drive, the father must have braked.

“And then he said that I should go out in the car,” the boy says in questioning.

Left alone in the dark: “I scream for him”

The boy has neither jacket nor mobile phone when he gets out of the car. The evening is dark and cold and he is on a country road without lighting.

“So I get very angry. Annoyed, scared and sad. I scream after him. Nothing happened anyway. Because he’s in the car so he couldn’t hear me either,” he later tells the interrogator.

The son says that he sits down in the ditch, but soon decides to leave the place. He starts jogging towards a house. Just as he’s about to knock, he sees his father drive by on the road again, but he doesn’t want to go back to him.

The family that lives in the house lets the boy in. He gets ice cream while they call the police. Social services are also contacted. During interrogation, the boy has tears in his eyes when he tells about the evening, which he describes as difficult.

“Dad had never done this before. And I was shocked.”

The father admits: “Brutal blunder”

In questioning, the father admits the act. He says his partner had just put their one-year-old to bed when the fight started to get loud. So that they could talk undisturbed, he took his son out in the car and after a few kilometers it dawned on him. He stopped the car and told his son to get out – but was surprised when the boy obeyed.

“I didn’t see that happening,” says the father.

He must have then realized that he had lost his way, turned the car around and drove back. Then the boy had disappeared. The father then suffered a “full panic attack” and started looking. After about 20 minutes he calls the police.

The father is now charged with molestation, but according to him the son should be fine today.

“We talk about what happened and I apologized. Discussed how we should handle such things in the future,” says the father.

“A brutal blunder on my part.”
