Post-career is always very difficult to manage for many athletes and this testimony proves it again.
Anticipating the end of a career for a top athlete is not easy. And depending on the degree of popularity as well as the income accumulated over all these years, it is not certain that these men and women will be able to get by. This is particularly the case for a former PSG player who found himself completely ruined.
Member of the PSG team with the former sporting director Leonardo in 1996, Daniel Kennedy, now aged around fifty, did not succeed in retraining in the world of football and experienced a big descent to the hells.
Portugal’s great hope in the 90s, the former defensive midfielder, who ended his career in 2012, found himself ruined because of his addictions to games and sports betting. But in recent months, he has found his way out of this trap: becoming an Uber driver.
“My first day. Today I’m going to start my first day at Uber and I hope it will be a very happy day for me,” he said with great desire and a lot of emotion on the networks social in June 2024. According to the Correio da Manha newspaper, Daniel Kennedy has more than 195,000 euros in debt.
To get out of it, in 2022, the former PSG player tried to revive himself by participating in the reality TV show Big Brother Famosos. A simple concept with a group of celebrities who had to live together in a house, isolated from the outside but continually filmed by television cameras. Contestants competed to win first place. After a brief return to the light in Portugal thanks to this British show, he plunged back into anonymity and financial setbacks.
Daniel Kennedy’s football career began in Portugal. He notably spent four years at Benfica Lisbon, one of the best Portuguese clubs and was crowned champion with the latter in 1994. It was thanks to his performances that he was spotted by PSG and signed a contract in 1996. He will play around forty matches with the capital club before returning to his country.
