Water that is too hot damages your skin and hair. Discover the explanations from dermatologists below.
A day in the cold often ends with a hot shower. Comforting and relaxing, the high temperature water relieves muscle tension and creates a very pleasant spa atmosphere in the bathroom. Unfortunately, it is not as good as you think for the skin, nor for the hair.
Dermatologists recently explained, in an article in the magazine Stylistthe reasons why it is better to lower the degrees: “A hot shower causes vasodilation (widening) of the blood vessels in your skinwhich allows the heat to dissipate.informs Dr. Angela Tewari, consultant dermatologist at GetHarley. When it evaporates, it takes the moisture with it. Result: your body and scalp are dry and dehydrated. Also, heat eliminates natural oils that “act as a protective barrier for the health and hydration of the scalp”tells us Nicole Petty, hair expert at Milk & Blush. As a result, brittleness and frizz may appear.
To avoid these inconveniences, Nicole Petty recommends lowering the water temperature to 38°C, if possible. If a hot shower is your little indulgence and you can’t do without it, don’t hesitate to apply an oil to your scalp beforehand, to protect it from dryness. It can be castor or argan oil. Next, Dr. Adam Friedmann, dermatologist consultant at Stratum Clinics, advises drying your skin with a soft towel “by patting it after a shower, rather than wiping it vigorously”. Finally, apply a moisturizing cream to the body (based on glycerol or urea), when the epidermis is still slightly damp. In this way, it limits the rapid evaporation of water.
You will have understood, water that is too hot is not your friend. And if you want to keep her in your circle of loved ones, take the necessary precautions so that she doesn’t harm you. Have a good shower!
