(Finance) – It was inaugurated today, ai Vatican Museumsthe new photovoltaic glass roofing of the Cortiledelle Corazze. The event was attended by Cardinal Fernando Ve´rgez Alzaga and the President of Acea Barbara Marinali.
The systems will significantly support the Museums’ electricity consumption with renewable energy production and will contribute to take down the State’s Carbon Foot Print. The intervention, carried out in just six months by Areti, company of the ACEA Group which deals with the distribution of electricity in Rome, has a further aesthetic and functional value for a site that is already iconic in the collective imagination: in fact the replacement of the existing glass with new photovoltaic glass has made it possible to create a covering that guarantees thermal insulation and a shading effect which significantly increase the liveability of the spaces. Just as the creation of a new lighting system made it possible to improve the lighting efficiency and consequent aesthetic enhancement of the site. To make the challenge for the technicians even more complex during the six months of work, the need to never hinder the flow of daily visitors through the entrance to the Museums. For this reason the technicians worked on internal and external scaffolding designed in such a way as to be able to carry out the interventions safely and without any hindrance to visitors.
In addition to the Corazze courtyardthe project also includes the covering of the building with photovoltaic glass Vignaccia warehouse in the Vatican Gardenswhich will be completed by the first few months of next year. Overall, the two plants envisage the creation of 350 KW of photovoltaic peak for a total production of approximately 500 MWh of electricity per year.
They were also inaugurated today 20 “fast” charging points on 10 columns and 2 “ultra fast” charging pointson a further column next to the entrance to the Paul VI Hall to encourage the spread of electric mobility.
There President of ACEA Barbara Marinali said: “The beauty of art and technological innovationa combination that is perfectly realized in the project that we are inaugurating today at the Vatican Museums. It is an opportunity for ACEA to provide its contribution, thanks to the Group’s very high professionalism, to one of the most important museums in the world, thus supporting the artistic-cultural sector. Today we can say that the Vatican is becoming more and more green. Thus continues our commitment to improving infrastructures and offering solutions that go in the direction of smart cities in a future in which the great challenge passes through the themes of new technology, digitalisation and artificial intelligence”.
