Syria’s new administration wants to contribute to regional peace, says the country’s new administration in a press release.
According to the release, the new administration wants to strengthen Syria’s role as a promoter of regional peace and build trusting and strategic relations with the countries of the region.
Known as the leader of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group Ahmed al-Sharaa and the US delegation met in the Syrian capital Damascus earlier on Friday.
Al-Shara was previously also known by its fighting name Abu Muhammad al-Julani.
A Syrian official described al-Sharaan and the US delegation as leading the news agency AFP by Barbara Leaf meeting as positive.
It was the first US diplomatic-level visit to Damascus in a long time. According to the US State Department, the goal of the meeting was to promote the transition towards a moderate new administration and to obtain information about Americans missing in Syria.
After the meeting, the United States announced that it would stop offering a reward for al-Julan’s capture.
In recent days, France, Germany, Britain and the UN have also sent their representatives to Damascus to establish relations with Syria.
