Studio behind The Witcher 4 promises that it makes sense why Ciri isn’t as strong anymore

The first trailer for The Witcher 4 was surprisingly shown at the Game Awards 2024. The fans’ big focus is on the new protagonist: Ciri. However, this causes confusion for some players because Ciri is actually overpowering. But the studio promises that it will all make sense.

What is it about? The first trailer for The Witcher 4 was presented at the Game Awards 2024. In the cinematic trailer you can also see Ciri as the new protagonist. You only hear Geralt as the narrator at the beginning. Although the trailer is well-received and Ciri is a popular character in general, some fans have concerns.

Especially before the development of Ciri. Many fans believe that Ciri can’t be a witcher and are wondering what actually happened to her gigantic powers that are seen at the end of The Witcher 3. In an interview with GamesRadar+, CD Project Red spoke about the topic again.

Something happened between part 3 and part 4

What does CD Project Red say? Since the release of the trailer, the studio behind The Witcher 4 has been pretty vague with statements about the story and lore. Many fans criticize that it can’t actually be the case that Ciri is a witcher. The whereabouts of their abilities also raise questions.

In a recent interview, Małgorzata Mitręga, executive producer of the game, spoke about Ciri’s change. She makes it clear that Ciri is not as incredibly strong as she was at the end of Witcher 3. She has changed her a lot.

The discrepancy between their total superiority at the end of the previous game and now, with the abilities shown in the trailer… something happened in between.

In the trailer you can see that Ciri fights like a classic sorcerer, but she obviously has different magical abilities than Geralt, for example. But you don’t see their powerful dimensional powers such as teleportation. Mitręga says that she has become faster and more agile.

In the course of this, she also makes it clear once again that a lot of attention has been paid to the lore, the books and also the established rules of the predecessors. She promises that an answer has been found to the questions about Ciri’s abilities: We have great respect for the lore, both for the books and for what was contained in our previous games.

However, the interview does not specify what exactly will be continued from Witcher 3. The role-playing game has various endings, which also relate to certain player decisions. So far, CD Project Red has only said that all endings are important. What this means is unclear, as Ciri also returns in some endings. There are also symbolic themes hidden in the trailer for The Witcher 4.
