Now we have taken another look at all film releases in 2024 to filter out your front runners. To qualify, a film had to have at least 70 reviews and be made between January 1st and December 31st, 2024 appeared in the cinema, on stream, on DVD or on TV be. If there was a tie, the invisible decimal places counted. An Italian film sneaked into the top 10: the black and white tragicomedy Tomorrow is another day too travels back to Rome in 1946. Delia (Paola Cortellesi) loves her three children but suffers from her hurtful husband. Only a letter and a social upheaval give her life a new direction.

Mads Mikkelsen shone in the Danish historical drama this year King’s Land. In it, the king wants to make an inhospitable area usable: Jutland. The Cannes win for Sean Baker’s epic is well deserved.

If you only watch one German film this year, it’s this one. Die cannot be forced into any genre and is a haunting character study, brutally humorous parody and tragic death trial all at once. The 3-hour ensemble drama with Lars Eidinger, Corinna Harfouch and Co. explored all facets of the Lunies’ family life and made Dying the best-rated German film of the year on Moviepilot.
6th place in the best films of 2024: All of Us Strangers
All of Us Strangers – Trailer (German) HD
2024 gave us one of the most intense film experiences of the year All of Us Strangerswhich unleashed a great storm of fantasy emotions using the simplest means: Andrew Scott (Ripley) plays a lonely screenwriter who suddenly meets his deceased parents again and at the same time falls in love with his neighbor (Gladiator 2 star Paul Mescal). Directed by Andrew Haigh (45 Years).

When a Christmas movie came out The Holdovers 2024 in January a little late in the cinema in Germany.
