Formula 1 team Red Bull announced that Sergio Perez does not continue in the stable. Perez drove for Red Bull for four years.

This season, however, the Mexican flopped badly. He finished eighth in the World Championship, while his teammate Max Verstappen won the championship. Red Bull dropped to third in the teams’ World Championship points.

Perez last reached the podium in the fifth race of the season in China. In the next race in Miami, he was still fourth, but after that he never even reached the top five.

In July, Red Bull extended Perez’s contract until the end of the 2026 season, but now the team has announced that the Mexican can leave. There had already been speculation about the sacking.

– After Abu Dhabi we will sit down, go through all our options and make a decision, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko said in Las Vegas in November when Perez finished 16th in qualifying.

Red Bull won the team championship in 2022 and 2023. Perez was third in World Championship points in 2022 and second in 2023.

– Driving with Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience. We broke records, achieved incredible milestones, and I had the privilege of meeting many incredible people. Thank you to the fans around the world, Perez said in the team’s press release.

Red Bull announced that Perez’s successor will be announced “in due course”.

A New Zealander is strongly in the running for the position Liam Lawson. In the 2023 season, Lawson drove five races in Red Bull’s second team Alpha Tauri, and this season in Red Bull’s second team – now called Racing Bulls – the last six races of the season.

Another Racing Bulls driver has been featured as another name Yuki Tsunoda.
