Federalberghi, 18.3 million Italians traveling at Christmas: turnover of 14.7 billion

Federalberghi 183 million Italians traveling at Christmas turnover of 147

(Finance) – At the end of the year 2024, for the holiday Christmas they will travel 18 million and 300 thousand Italiansthe majority of whom – 16.9 million – will remain in the Bel Paese while only 1 million and 400 thousand of them will opt for international destinations. An unmissable period for large Departures that of Christmas, during which there is usually an all-Italian inclination to stay nearby, to respect the tradition of celebrating Christmas Eve with the family and to plan, if anything, something more “transgressive” for New Year’s Eve.

Going into more specifics, those who will move for the sun vacation Christmas there will be 7.6 million. Instead, 5.3 million fellow citizens will indulge in a “long” holiday, which includes at least 11 days of celebration. For the New Year’s 4 million and 400 thousand will set off while around one million travelers will move around theEpiphany.

Even in the choice of destinationswe don’t abandon the old path for the new: it will remain in pole position mountainfollowed by cities of art and seaside resorts. The turnover that this tourist movement will produce on a global level will amount to 14.7 billion euros.

“2024 turned out to be a happy calendar for tourism for the Christmas holidays – declared the president of Federalberghi, Bernabo Boccacommenting on the results of the survey carried out for the Federation by Tecnè – Despite the missed weekend on the occasion of the feast of the Immaculate Conception on 8 December, which happened on a Sunday, the main holidays of 25 and 26 December will instead fall in the middle of the week, thus offering a tasty opportunity to plan a departure. But that’s not all: the highly anticipated New Year’s Day will also fall on Wednesday, thus allowing the holiday to be incorporated almost at the end of the weekend. Last but not least, January 6, 2025 is also well placed to offer a broader break from work, as it will happen on a Monday.”

“That our fellow citizens continue to prefer the Bel Paese no longer surprises us – continued Bocca – As I have already had the opportunity to say, since post-Covid onwards, Italians have started to consider their country again as a privileged destination for their holidays. Despite this, we are aware that at the moment there is a decline in tourism Italianwhile the presence of foreign tourism increases. We live with apprehension the fact that 35% of those who gave up traveling on the occasion of Christmas motivated their choice with the lack of economic resources. The brake on the internal tourist movement seems to be the direct consequence of the increase in the cost of living. A difficulty which, more generally, makes all Italians more thrifty and therefore more attentive to travel expenses”.

“The reassuring data that emerged from our investigation – concluded Bocca – is that 15.3 million Italians stayed at least once in a hotel during the year, and 96.6% expressed a positive opinion on this experience, underlining the high quality of our services. This is a very auspicious survey, which helps us approach Christmas in the right spirit.”
