The French Supreme Court confirmed the former president on Wednesday Nicolas Sarkozy of the verdict for corruption and abuse of power, reports news agency AFP.

Sarkozy had appealed the 2021 sentence, in which he had been given a three-year prison sentence. Two years of the sentence were suspended, and in the final year Sarkozy would wear an electronic monitoring bracelet instead of going to prison.

The court ruling means Sarkozy must wear a bracelet and cannot run for office for three years.

The case began with suspicions that Sarkozy had received illegal aid in 2007. Sarkozy was the president of France from 2007 to 2012.
