Biathlonist Tilda Johansson ends her career

She has previously paused her career and quit the national team.
Now the biathlon talent Tilda Johansson has decided to stop altogether.
– I think elite sport and elite investment is not for everyone and it wasn’t for me. It was too much, she tells Radiosporten.

Last season the Swedish big talent won Tilda Johansson25, the entire IBU Cup, which is the biathlon level during the World Cup. After the fine achievement, the expectations for her have been sky high. But the pressure has become too much for her to handle.

Tilda Johansson’s shock announcement about the national team

In January this year, Tilda Johansson decided that she would pause her elite career. It was a real shock message from her, as she had just been given the chance to ride in the World Cup.
“The past year has been extremely stressful, both physically, but mostly mentally. I have struggled a lot with the motivation, desire and joy for this sport. This has affected me mentally, me as a person and my mood,” she wrote on Instagram.

She decided to take an indefinite break from biathlon and described it all as “heartbreaking”. Just over a month after the announcement came the next unexpected announcement about Johansson’s career. She had then changed sports – to cross-country skiing.
– I think I feel much better now and feel great joy in cross-country skiing and training. It’s very nice to be able to go there and just do what I like, without performance and result goals. Of course I want to do well, but the goal will be to ride with as much joy as possible, she said in an interview with SVT.
– I have no desire for biathlon so far. Now that I feel better and my motivation is up, I feel that it might be a good start with a distance where I can ride without requirements, she continued.

Tilda Johansson’s new career decision

Now unfortunately comes even more sad news regarding the talent Tilda Johansson. She has decided to end her elite career due to performance anxiety and lack of motivation.
– It is no longer an elite venture, but I see biathlon as a hobby now. I had hoped that I would be on the starting line, but once the competitions came, there was no enthusiasm left, she tells Radiosporten.

She says she is happy with her decision and has accepted it. Today she feels better than in a long time.
– I feel incredibly well today. I’ve probably never done as well as I did last year. I have really found myself. I think elite sport and elite investment is not for everyone and it wasn’t for me. It was too much, she says.

So sad to hear about your decision, Tilda. It would have been a lot of fun to see you continue to compete in the Biathlon World Cup. But as long as you feel good and are happy with your decision, that’s all that matters. Good luck in the future!
