The Ministry of Commerce inspected the toys on the market and we can say that the situation is really dire. According to the resulting table, many brands and products were determined to be dangerous. It turned out that chemicals such as lead and phthalate were well above the limit. These health-threatening substances are mostly found in children’s favorite products such as slime, stickers and rubber balls.
All of them are in children’s hands, bags or rooms, and all of them contain chemicals that endanger health. The Ministry conducted an investigation. A decision was made to recall dozens of toys sold in stationery stores.
CANCER AND ALZHEIMER RISK
Speaking to ATV Main News, Oncology Specialist Prof. Dr. Didem Taştekin made striking statements about the lead and phthalate substances detected in toys. Stating that these substances threaten health, Taştekin said, “It can cause cancer and is the cause of many cancers. Lead is one of the most harmful dense metals. It is a substance that causes Alzheimer’s, fatigue, dementia and weakness.” he said.
IT CAUSES ANEMIA IN CHILDREN
Talking about the harms of the phthalate substance found in plastics, the expert said, “Phthalate is a substance generally found in plastics. It is also found in some toys. When excess accumulates in the body, it can cause many diseases such as liver cancer, liver failure, Alzheimer’s, and anemia in children.” he said.
‘DO NOT EVEN LET IT IN YOUR HOME’
The Ministry also decided to collect some of the easily broken toys and beaded clothes.
Prof. Taştekin said, “Do not buy clothes that can break or have beads, because the child does not know anything and wants to get to know everything, so they should not even let them into their homes.” He warned the families.
Among the items that were decided to be recalled are jewelery products, room fragrances and stickers.
Phthalate, a harmful substance, was found even in rubber ducks.
One of the products that the Ministry of Commerce decided to recall is the paint of this brand. The reason is that too much lead is used when creating the dark blue color.
Another product that came to the Ministry of Commerce’s radar was slimes. It was decided to recall some brands’ slimes because they contained heavy metals.
