Faced with the increase in cyberattacks, the Government is launching 17Cyber, a platform designed to help victims of hacking, harassment and other cybercrime, in order to obtain a diagnosis and advice.
We can’t say it enough, but the Internet is full of dangers! No less than 9 out of 10 French people have already been confronted with a situation of computer malware, particularly through phishing. Not to mention that, in recent months, French companies and organizations have been the target of a wave of hacking, intended to steal the personal and banking data of customers and users. Whether hospitals, banks, operators or public institutions, absolutely no one is spared!
To combat cybercrime, the Government has set up several online platforms intended to help victims. There is cybermalveillance.gouv.fr, which allows you to benefit from an online diagnosis and benefit from specialist advice, and THESEE, a service for filing complaints online dedicated to digital scams (account hacking, attempted extortion, ransomware, Internet fraud and scams, etc.), which is also very successful. Not to mention the reporting sites, like Perceval or Pharos. Internet users will now also be able to count on 17Cyberwhich has just been launched by the Government this December 17 ! His ambition: “become the new reflex for French victims of cybercrime”.
17Cyber: a platform to identify, advise and assist
This system dedicated to the fight against cyberattacks and cybercrime was announced by Emmanuel Macron in January 2022, as part of the one billion euro plan dedicated to the fight against cybercrime. It must help individuals, businesses and communities who believe they are victims of cyber-malicious acts such as online scams, data theft or cyber harassment. The site is available 24/7, and allows you to quickly understand, by answering a few questions, what type of threat you are facing, and thus receive personalized advice based on the attack suffered.
Firstly, the platform will seek to identify the problem, in particular by asking victims if it concerns a message received, an online account, a smartphone or even a connected object. Then, it will provide them with personalized advice while putting them in contact with a police officer, a gendarme or even a service provider referenced or labeled by Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr, depending on the case. It will also assist them with reporting or filing a complaint on platforms such as THESEE.
To make its new service accessible to as many people as possible, the Government has also set up, in addition to the 17cyber.gouv.fr site, a 17Cyber module which can be directly integrated into websites. Completely free, it allows users to“complete the 17Cyber course and benefit from personalized help”. Several companies (Crédit Agricole, La Poste, Meta, Match Group, Société Générale, X…) have already agreed to relay it on their platforms.
