After the outcry in the community, the developers of the MMORPG Tibia announced that they wanted to retrospectively review some of the character deletions that had been carried out. The result of the test is now clear.
What happened in Tibia? In November 2024, the MMORPG from the Regensburg studio CipSoft underwent a belated spring cleaning of a slightly different kind. The developer took targeted action against accounts and characters that were said to have violated the user agreements by using unauthorized scripts and macros.
MeinMMO first reported that one of the richest druids had also been caught – items worth over 11,500 euros were suddenly gone. A little later, the developers even deleted the highest level Knight of Tibia (level 2,453), into which many years of playing time had gone.

Some players breathe a sigh of relief, others foam with anger
What kind of update was there now? Based on feedback from the community, Tibia’s developers said at the end of November that they wanted to review the deletions that had been made. A few days ago, players discovered that some of the deleted characters were available again – including the rich druid and the high-level knight (via Reddit).
Those affected were contacted at the same time by the developers via email and, in addition to an apology, also received compensation in the form of premium playing time. One of the beneficiaries of this decision wrote on Reddit that he never cheated and is now happy to be able to play again.
How does the community react? In various other posts, Tibia players also complain that among the 1,100 characters whose deletion was apparently undone (out of a total of almost 8,000, via Reddit), many were actually cheaters.
In his post on Reddit, the player Morelinvention points out numerous “videos, posts on Discord and Whatsapp groups” in which cheaters, who now have access to their characters again, are said to admit to using macros. As an example, Morelinvention links a video from Vda_pedro on YouTube, which reveals relevant news over almost 25 minutes.
The players’ accusation against the developers: They didn’t carry out a thorough check of the deletions in order to achieve the best result for the community, but simply brought back accounts in order not to torpedo sales too much (via Reddit). In this way, Tibia would show all cheaters that it doesn’t matter whether you cheat or not (via Reddit). How do you see that?
What do I need to know about Tibia and CipSoft? The studio from Regensburg was founded in 2001 after the MMORPG Tibia, released in 1997, became a success. The online role-playing game with the charming retro look has had 32 million players and 200 million euros in sales over the years, and is said to be more successful today than ever before.
The studio was able to grow sustainably, to currently 100 employees. In 2019, Tibia even won the German Developer Award in the “long-running” category. Thanks to all of this, Tibia is one of the oldest and most successful online role-playing games in Europe. Most recently, the developers entered the world of cryptocurrencies with the MMORPG and introduced the Tibia Token.
