There are restrictions on social media Minister Goktas announced by

Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş participated in the ‘Child Workshop in the Digital World’ and ‘Sharing the Digital Addiction and Family Workshop Report Results with the Public’ program held in a hotel in Ankara.

In the second workshop held on the findings of the ‘Digital Addiction and Family Workshop’, the effects of the digital world on children, the opportunities it provides and the risks encountered were discussed.

NEW MEASURES ARE ON THE WAY: “WE ARE IN PREPARATION”

Stating that serious measures are being taken in the world today to protect children from the risks they may encounter in digital media, Göktaş said:

“In Australia, the bill that imposes the world’s most comprehensive social media ban for children under the age of 16 has become law. European Union countries have also banned the use of smartphones in schools in order to combat screen addiction and cyber bullying. Some countries impose restrictions on social media platforms on moral and national security grounds. Today, we have to protect our children against the risk of digital addiction, which has become a serious problem. Since the day we took office, we have been working intensively to develop a model specific to our country and, as a result of our work, a legal regulation regarding digital media and game platforms. We have seen that it is essential to do so. We are preparing legislation to regulate social media and digital game platforms for our children under the age of 16, taking into account their physical and mental development.

We want to offer a safer digital world to our children with this legal regulation, which will be implemented with the leading role of our Ministry and the active participation of all parties. “We also plan to create a new action plan to impose restrictions on the use of some social media platforms for the safety of our children and to promote the healthy and conscious use of digital channels.”
