The Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent has launched a new fundraiser to help the organization, as well as the environment.
Zonta has partnered with Canadian company Tru Earth to offer an alternative to traditional detergents. The company has created an ultra-concentrated liquid-less laundry detergent strip that can simply be tossed in the wash.
One strip weighs only three grams, compared to the 40 grams normally used for liquid or powder detergent, resulting in a 97 per cent reduction in transportation costs and a reduction in carbon emissions.
“Many small actions can have a big impact, and changing your current way of washing clothes to a more eco-friendly one is something everyone can do easily,” Zonta president Corrinne Kennedy said in a release.
“Tru Earth strips work well and are so convenient. We hope all of Chatham will order this product through Zonta and support women and the earth.”

The Zonta Club of Chatham-Kent, a member of Zonta International, supports girls and women in the community and has continued throughout the pandemic. However, since its traditional fundraisers include groups of people coming together, there’s a pressing need to build up funds after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization stated.
Often women and girls are the most affected by climate change. In Madagascar, for example, adolescent girls are often pulled out of school to help fetch water, which can involve a full day’s journey.
“Since many women are social leaders, we can take the lead to make changes toward carbon neutrality and support government and international initiatives to combat climate change,” Kennedy said. “The climate is changing, and we need to change too.”
