(Finance) – Trainosea company controlled by Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group) and operating on railway services in Greece, signed a ten-year service contract in Athensextendable for a further 5 years, for passenger transport on all Greek lines. Thus the presence of the FS Group in Europe is consolidated, after the launch in recent days of the Frecciarossa connections between Paris and Lyon with Trenitalia France.
The contract, according to FSNews, the FS Group’s information portal, has a value of 50 million a year and establishes the Public Service Obligations (OSP). Trainose has undertaken to carry out investments to improve and modernize the fleet so as to make the service more and more sustainable.
The signature was affixed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Kostas Karamanlisby the Minister of Finance Christos Staikuras and by the CEO of Trainose and Country Manager Greece of the FS Italiane Group Maurizio Capotorto. Also present was the Ambassador of Italy to Greece Patrizia Falcinelli and the President of Trainose Dario Lo Bosco.
“This new contract introduces for the first time substantial investments in rail passenger transport and modifies the compensation mechanism, emphasizing the efficiency and incentives for Trainose, with an evaluation every six months”, explained the minister Karamanlis.
“Greece is an important country for us and very soon we will announce new initiatives with the aim of enhancing our services and developing an increasingly effective and sustainable rail transport”, underlined the managing director of Trainose. Maurizio Capotorto.
“The FS Italiane Group is committed, through Trainose, to implementing the best synergies with the Government of Greece for green mobility, increasingly safe and with quality and high-tech services for citizens and tourists”, added the President Dario Lo Boscoadding “with this contract a new process of upgrading the stations is also outlined, starting with those of Athens and Thessaloniki, with an electric mobility system to support the railway one for first and last mile connections”.
