Gray and slushy or illuminated by a soft blanket of snow?
Christmas Eve is fast approaching, and in large parts of the country it has not yet been decided whether it will be white or not.
– It is possible to draw a line, north of it there is a significantly greater probability of snow, says Lasse Rydqvist, meteorologist at Klart.
Whether Santa’s sleigh is ahead this year depends on where you’re celebrating. In many places, it is still uncertain whether the snow will be white on the roofs on December 24.
In all of Götaland and the southern and western parts of Svealand, a “mild air attack” looks like it could destroy all the snow, says Lasse Rydqvist, meteorologist at Klart.
Until Thursday, there will be both plus degrees and a lot of rain. So even in the places that currently have a snow cover, the probability that it will disappear during the week is high.

The weekend does look like it will get colder, but whether these areas will get snow depends on whether it draws in precipitation that will reach the ground as snow in sub-zero temperatures.
– It is a little uncertain what will happen. But there are some signals that indicate that something could get in there. About the day before Christmas Eve, snow can actually pass, at least over the southern Swedish highlands, says Lasse Rydqvist.
Then it can be slippery on the roads
However, there are more snow-sure areas. In all of Norrland and the western parts of Svealand it looks like it will be white. Even the Norrbotten coast and the Gästrikland coast, which have quite a bit of snow today, are predicted to be quite white before Christmas Eve.
– There is a border roughly at Mälardalen, says Lasse Rydqvist.
The wet weather in the middle of the week can also create problems for Christmas traffic. Because the risk is that a wet road will freeze and become very slippery for those who want to go to Christmas celebrations already on Thursday.

In addition, there may be poor visibility. It is mainly in central Sweden that the temperature can be around zero and thus pose a risk.
– It’s a bit difficult for me to say in detail, but that’s how it looks now. If you have to choose between going on Thursday or Friday, I would probably wait until Friday. Or until Saturday even.
