Finnkampen will be 100 years old next year. Then the pole vault star Armand Duplantis promises that he will be at the Stockholm stadium.
“It will be very special,” he says.
“Finnkampen, 100-year celebration and home ground. It will be very special! I have informed Kajsa that she can include me in the squad,” he says in a press release.
Duplanti’s message
Armand Duplantis has several times refrained from competing in Finnkampen due to a busy competition schedule.
He will have an equally intense competition program next year as well. On August 16, he competes in the Diamond League in Silesia, Poland. The Finnkampen will be decided on August 23–24, and the Diamond League final will then take place on August 27–28.

About two weeks later, it is time for the WC in Tokyo.
“It will be tight, but it has to work. I always want to be part of Finnkampen and this time it feels extra important,” says Duplantis.
Mondo historical
In 2015, he became the youngest male participant in Finnkampen’s history and finished third at 5.17 meters.

Ten years later, he will compete in Stockholm’s stadium as one of the world’s best track and field athletes and probably also with an unthreatened world record (currently 6.26). But the feeling is the same as in 2015.
“Finnkampen for me, it’s a folk festival and a very fun competition where the team is the important thing. Most often, you compete alone, even if you represent Sweden at championships. But this is something completely different,” says Duplantis.
Bergqvist pays tribute
The national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist says in the press release that it is extremely important that the biggest Swedish stars are in the Finnkampen.
“Mondo and several other of our main actives will have a very tough schedule around Finnkampen next year, and the World Cup in Japan is waiting around the corner, but I am completely confident that everyone who can participate also wants to participate,” she says.
Finland won this year’s Finnkamp, both on the men’s and women’s side.
