In the world of Harry Potter there are many different magical animals. Some of them are extremely dangerous. Others just want to cuddle. We look at the 10 cutest animals that have absolutely enchanted us.
What are animals? The Ministry of Magic, or more specifically the “Department for the Guidance and Supervision of Magical Creatures,” broadly divides magical creatures into three categories:
We want to concentrate on the animals in this ranking. Which one you find particularly sweet is of course very subjective. Feel free to tell us in the comments which magical creature is your personal favorite!
10th place: Norbert
Norbert, the Norwegian spiny humpback, comes in 10th. If you asked Hagrid, the little baby dragon would definitely be in first place. After all, one of Hagrid’s biggest dreams is to raise his own dragon.
Admittedly, dragons aren’t actually that cute. On the contrary – they are among the most dangerous animals in the wizarding world. But somehow little Norbert is really cute as he sneezes out his first flames and thinks Hagrid is his mom.
That’s why we’re making a small exception here and giving the place specifically to Baby Norbert instead of to an entire animal species.
9th place: Fwuuper
Fwuupers are colorful, fluffy-looking birds originally from Africa. They can come in the brightest colors – from orange to pink to lime green. Their magnificent feathers are therefore often used as quills.
As cute as the magical birds can look, they are not entirely harmless. Her singing can drive listeners crazy. If you want to keep a Fwuuper, you should cast a silencing spell on it.
8th place: Golden Snitch
Golden snails are small, extremely agile birds. They are perfectly round, with a long, thin beak and golden yellow feathers. That’s why they look like little, cute, flying balls.
They were used as such for a long time, namely in Quidditch. However, as the snitchers were in danger of being completely wiped out, they were eventually replaced by the Golden Snitch we know today.
7th place: Diricawl
The Diricawl is another bird on this list (and the last one, I promise). It comes from East Africa, is rather clumsy, cannot fly, but has very fluffy feathers.
Despite his inability to fly, he has remarkable abilities to get out of danger. He can teleport himself.
Actually, Diricawls are even known among Muggles. However, we know them as dodos, which have been considered extinct since the 17th century. However, since the supposed extinction had a positive effect on Muggle environmental awareness, the Ministry of Magic never found it necessary to clarify the Diricawls’ teleportation ability.
