WoW has a new idea for dungeons and is dividing the community

The World of Warcraft developers have an idea for how they want to change Mythic+. The problem is that it could change everything.

The Mythic+ system has served World of Warcraft well over many expansions. But the system is currently crumbling because some people in the community are not happy with it. Healers and tanks in particular are having a hard time at the moment and are quitting in large numbers in favor of playing simpler roles.

But the developers have an idea that is not only met with approval.

What kind of idea is this? Several World of Warcraft players report in various forums that they were invited to take part in a survey. The survey aims to collect some fans’ thoughts on various ideas from the developers. An idea:

Mythisch+ could forego a timer and instead use a “life” system.

Instead of completing a dungeon within a certain time limit, you would then have to complete it without too many party members dying.

This is how the community discusses: The suggestion is being discussed lively in the comments on wowhead. The issue seems to divide people into two extreme camps whose views could hardly be more different. A “life” system instead of a timer would therefore result in one of two things:

  • Either: Mythic+ loses all of its appeal because the timer is the fun. The time pressure creates the need to plan cleverly, learn dungeons carefully and calculate dangers in order to do everything within time. Without the timer, Mythisch+ is basically dead.
  • Or: Mythisch+ would be interesting for many other groups who don’t want time pressure and can instead take as much time as they want to wait for cooldowns and complete each pull at full strength.
  • Both variants certainly have advantages and disadvantages, so a heated discussion has broken out. Some of the comments:

  • “The fun part of M+ is the speed. If you don’t want a time limit, just raid or invent another Mythic+ system, such as Mythic+Hardcore with a different type of keystone.
With the life system it would just be a different game. What about keystones where the tank dies because of a mistake on the last boss and now the whole party falls? You can still save it with a timer. If that’s just 5 deaths, it’s over. It can be fun, but it would be a different game mode.” – bloodline
  • “My concern is that a death counter will make dungeons run slower and will ultimately only result in people leaving a dungeon if they are ruined because of the deaths and not because of the timer.
What if we simply made the timer an incentive rather than a failure condition? […]“ – StrobeLightning
  • “Just no. These would be “Torghast 2.0” errors. Then you only pull when all cooldowns are ready. Be prepared to play the waiting game after every pull.” – Nightstalker314
  • “I don’t want my +10 keys to last any longer.” – Villager720
  • “Why not both? Mythic+ (Challenge Mode) has a timer.
Mythic+ has a death counter but no timer.
So people could choose. This would also be a good way to bring back the Challenge Mode style rewards from Mists of Pandaria.” -Hallows
  • What do you think of this idea? Would you like it if Mythisch+ tried methods other than a timer? What other systems would be suitable to maintain the challenge and still justify good equipment as a reward?
Another survey has revealed that Blizzard is working on over a dozen new class ideas.
