Stubb represents Finland at the meeting of the cooperation group of ten countries.
The meeting of heads of defense cooperation JEF countries starts today in Tallinn. Finland is represented at the meeting by the president Alexander Stubb.
The topics of the meeting are JEF countries’ support for Ukraine and strengthening deterrence and defense. In addition, the meeting will discuss the security situation in Europe.
JEF, or Joint Expeditionary Force, is a multilateral defense cooperation framework of Northern European countries led by Britain. In addition to Britain, it includes the Netherlands, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Estonia. Among others, the British Prime Minister will be present in Tallinn Keir Starmer.
The goal of JEF is to develop the military capabilities of the participating countries through joint exercises, to prevent various crises and, if necessary, act together in crisis situations. The group operates mainly in Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea region.
The operation of JEF’s rapid response forces formally started in 2018.
The leaders’ meeting continues in Estonia until tomorrow. Stubb will meet privately with the President of Estonia on Tuesday Alar Karis.
