Finnish alpine skier Eduard Hallberg, who started the season strongly, took his suspension personally.
An early Finnish alpine sensation Eduard Hallberg started the Val d’Isere World Cup slalom in a model way, but had to stop his descent in the second round.
It snowed a lot in Val d’Isere on Saturday, and a little more on Sunday morning as well. The track team had to work hard to even get through the day’s race.
Hallberg, who started the race with starting number 35, controlled the conditions perfectly and was sure to make it to the second round. He missed the fastest scorer in France in the first round From Steven Amiez 1.95 seconds, which justified at that point instead of 15.
Hallberg’s ranking was excellent considering the circumstances.
– There were a couple of mistakes, but 15th place was very good under those conditions. Val d’Isere’s ski slope is really nice, it has variations in steepness, different shapes and turns.
A large number of suspensions in the 2nd round
In the second round, there was a heavy loss among the top scorers. As many as seven of the top 15 finishers stopped the first rounds, including Amiez, who was leading after the first round.
Hallberg said the conditions changed during the second round.
– The surface of the track broke. It was a good light for the first skiers, but then clouds came and the visibility decreased considerably.
In the second lap, Hallberg crashed out in the early stages of the track. He didn’t blame his own exit on the circumstances.
– The first gates went well, then there was a long right, followed by two fast turns. I went into the turn too fast and the ski caught and went off the wrong side of the pole.
– It feels like that could have been avoided, but these things happen. Feeling a bit stupid, but let’s continue next week in Alta Badia, Hallberg said in Ski Sport Finland’s press release.
Norway took the double win in Val d’Isere Henrik Kristoffersen before his countryman Atle Lie Mcgrathia (+0.52 sec).
