Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said in his statement that the embassy in Dublin will be closed following the decision of the Republic of South Africa to intervene in the “genocide” case filed against Israel at the ICJ.
In the statement made by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was claimed that the Irish government was implementing “extreme anti-Israeli policies” and said, “The decision to close the Israeli embassy in Dublin was taken in light of the Irish government’s extreme anti-Israeli policies.”
THEY RECOGNIZED THE STATE OF PALESTINE
Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense Micheal Martin made a written statement after the cabinet meeting on May 28, announcing that his country officially recognized the Palestinian state. The Tel Aviv administration recalled its ambassador in response to Ireland’s recognition of the Palestinian state.
THEY WILL INTERVENE IN THE GENOCIDE CASE
Ireland had stated on December 11 that it would apply to intervene in the “genocide” case filed by the Republic of South Africa against Israel before the ICJ.
In the written statement made by the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was announced that the government approved Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense Micheal Martin to apply for intervention in the “genocide” case filed by the Republic of South Africa against Israel at the ICJ.
Defense Minister Martin, in his statement after the Council of Ministers where the decision was taken, said, “The Palestinian people have been collectively punished for the purpose and effect of the military actions carried out by Israel in Gaza, which caused the death of 44 thousand people and the displacement of millions of civilians.” he said.
South Africa applied to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate Israel’s attacks on Gaza in November last year. On December 29, 2023, South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel at the ICJ on the grounds that it violated the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide dated 1948.
