The announcement of the new Hunger Games film came to us in June 2024 and fulfilled a long-held fan dream with fan favorite Haymitch as the main character. The sixth part of the youth dystopia is once again based on an (upcoming) book by US author Suzanne Collins and this novel already has a publication date:
A cinema release for Haymitch’s Hunger Games prequel story has already been announced: the next Hunger Games film is coming out in Germany November 19, 2026 to the cinemas. That’s a day earlier than in the US.

When does Haymitch’s Hunger Games prequel take place?
Sunrise on the Reaping takes place 24 years before Katniss’s first outing in the arena. The film deals with this The boy’s background Haymitch Abernathy. The title Sunrise on the Reaping Translated, it means something like “sunrise over the harvest” and refers to the day on which the Hunger Games tributes are drawn in the districts. The German book title (The Hunger Games L) refers to the 50th Hunger Games with the L as a Roman numeral (like The Hunger Games X * did as a reference to the 10th Hunger Games).
Hunger Games 6 is based on a certain theme
The sci-fi film world of the Hunger Games lives on, although everyone involved always emphasized that Suzanne Collins would only write a story if they could tell something new with it. After Katniss’s fight for survival, Snow’s story was a negotiation of innate and nurtured evil.
In Haymitch’s story, Collins wants to, according to a Variety interview Follow up question: “What’s real and what’s not?” It is based on the Scottish philosopher David Hume’s ideas about unconditional submission, according to which the many allow themselves to be ruled by the few. Cast & crew of the new Hunger Games film

The first name that rumored for young Haymitch came into circulation is that of an actor Mike Faist. Films like West Side Story and Challengers showed that he had the perfect charisma for the role. However, at 32, the star may be too old for the part, as the Capitol selects young people between the ages of 12 and 18 for the Hunger Games.
