(Finance) – The Luiss Guido Carli University celebrates theinauguration of the 2024-2025 academic year. The ceremony, which took place in the Aula Magna of the Viale Pola Campus in Rome, placed the theme ofArtificial intelligence, analyzed from the perspective of opportunities, educational challenges and ethical implications, during a dialogue between the guest of honour James ManyikaPresident Research, Technology & Society at Google e Father Paolo BenantiPresident of the AI Commission for Information at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
Designing the University of tomorrow also means taking into account the profound transformations introduced by Artificial Intelligence in higher education systems at a global level, enhancing its benefits for teaching and research”, declared, at the opening of the Ceremony, the Rector of Luiss, Paolo Boccardelli. “To truly govern AI, the world of higher education has the responsibility to build learning models that adapt machines to the abilities and values of the person, leveraging reflective skills and the development of critical thinking, with a strong focus to skills. Universities and in particular Luiss, promoted by Confindustria, are increasingly called upon to play an active role in society, preparing aware and committed leaders who know how to face and manage the digital revolution”.
Scientists, ethicists, politicians, teachers and students: everyone in society needs to be involved to develop AI properly. are the words of James ManyikaGoogle’s number one for AI, who adds: “Students will be essential to ensuring that we maximize the benefits of AI for the benefit of everyone, everywhere, while addressing its complexities and risks.”
During his speech Father Paolo Benanti underlined the need to bring technological innovation and social progress together, with an ethical approach oriented towards the common good.
In line with this commitment, Luiss announces the birth “AI4Society“, the research center that aims to become an international point of reference for critical and transversal reflection on Artificial Intelligence, analyzing its impacts and implications through the double lens of scientific disciplines and social sciences.
The new Center was presented by Professor Giuseppe Italianoappointed this summer as Pro-Rector for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Skills: the University named after Guido Carli was among the first in Italy to introduce this figure, with a supervisory function on innovative study paths that combine technology, sustainability and interdisciplinarity, such as Management and Artificial Intelligence, Global Law and Strategic Management. And again. The Free International University of Social Studies has recently introduced the Certificate of “AI Literacy“: a badge, mandatory from this year, to ascertain the digital skills of graduates with a master’s degree, with the prospect of extending it to three-year courses as well.
“The future of skills will be characterized by continuous change.” Speaking at the end of the ceremony was Mr president of Luiss, Luigi Gubitosi. “The reflections of James Manyika and Father Paolo Benanti on the future of generative AI, on new digital rights and on the need for sustainable innovation are consistent with the values of our University. We are certain that their testimonies and their example of pioneers of the development and regulation of Artificial Intelligence will be an inspiration to our students. The complexity that characterizes a future that is already present requires a new generation of global and responsible leaders, capable of facing current challenges. This is the mission of our University”.
The constant commitment to innovating teaching is reflected in an increasingly international training offer: to date, over half of Luiss courses are entirely in English and 28% of those enrolled in these courses come from abroad. I am, then, 360 partner universities in 73 countries, with 69 triple and double degree agreements.
