Major changes in WhatsApp – how users are affected

Major changes in WhatsApp how users are affected

WhatsApp is one of the world’s most used communication apps and it has become more and more popular to use the chat feature in the app.

In December 2024, Meta announced that they are therefore investing in developing the function in time for Christmas.

“Easier than ever to stay in touch”

In a blog post, Meta writes:

“Calling on WhatsApp continues to grow in popularity around the world. Now over two billion calls are made on WhatsApp every day. Ahead of the holiday season, we’re introducing new calling features for both desktop and mobile, making it easier than ever to stay in touch with your loved ones and dear.”

So what does that mean? Well, among other things, the app will allow users to select specific participants in a group chat to start a conversation with. You can then call certain people without disturbing the rest of the group.

“Perfect for planning surprise parties or gifts,” writes Meta in the post.

Should make conversations more fun

What is also added in the new features is camera filters. Among these, dog ears, a karaoke microphone and an underwater filer are introduced – to make video calls and conversations more fun on both computer and phone.

Call quality will also change – for the better. Meta is working to improve the calling experience so that users can more easily start calls directly from WhatsApp on the computer.

For video calls, the company promises higher and better resolution for both individual and group calls.

The phones where WhatsApp will stop working

On some older iPhone models, such as the iPhone 5s, WhatsApp will soon stop working. That’s because WhatsApp now requires iOS 15.1 or later updates.

Meta also announces that voicemail transcription will now be available to everyone, and it is important to have the latest update of the app to have access to the new features.
