Laura Lahtinen advanced convincingly to the semi-finals of the women’s 100m butterfly at the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Budapest. Lahtinen swam in the heats of the morning with a time of 56.20 and was the sixth fastest of the heats.
In the semifinals, Lahtinen started his swim strongly, but finished 10th with a time of 56.26 and seemed to qualify for the final.
Finland’s team leader Jari Varjonen told Urheilu on Friday evening that two competitors who swam better from Lahti withdrew from the final. This is how the Finn got into Saturday’s final race.
