It was when the police did a vehicle check south of Hok in September that the thefts were discovered. During the search of the car and the home rented by the two men, stolen goods with a value of more than SEK 120,000 were found. The stolen goods came from shop thefts in Växjö, Gnosjö, Vaggeryd, Vetlanda and Eksjö.
– The police patrol who stopped the car and arrested the suspects did an excellent job. They were curious and thorough and it produced a good result. Just the way we want our patrols to work, says Johan Borg, operational coordinator at local police area Värnamo in a comment on the police website.
Growing problem
The men, who are both foreign nationals, were wearing women’s-style bathing suits under their clothes that were cut open at the front to allow items to be tucked inside.
According to the police, the fact that foreign theft gangs carry out theft tours in Sweden is a growing problem. Every year, goods worth many millions are stolen – goods that are then transported out of the country.
Goods that are often stolen are expensive goods that are easy to hide. It often involves razor blades, toothbrush heads, expensive skin care products, snuff and cigarettes.
