When it was announced in the early 2010s that director George Miller would be making a sequel to his iconic Mad Max trilogy, no one really had any idea what kind of film was in the pipeline. In 2015, 36 years after the first Mad Max film, Miller finally released his action hit Mad Max: Fury Road onto the worldwide cinema audience and caused wide eyes and open mouths.

In the fourth Mad Max part, Tom Hardy follows in Mel Gibson’s footsteps and takes on the role of protagonist Max Rockatansky. He continues to fight his way through as a lone fighter eternal desert of a post-apocalyptic world. One day, however, he is captured by the army of the cruel despot Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) to serve as an unwilling blood donor.
But he manages to escape and joins Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron), who has just freed five young women from Immortan Joe’s power and is now on the run from the tyrant. Together they cross the dangerous wasteland, hunted relentlessly by the villain and his crazed entourage.

With Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller created an action inferno that landed at number 3 on Moviepilot’s top 100 best films of the 2010s for good reason. Fantastically filmed, fast-paced and perfectly equipped down to the last detail, The sequel outshines its three predecessors in every respect.
Miller peppered his brutal dystopia with all sorts of things bizarre characters, breathtaking images and powerfully staged chases that are unparalleled in the genre. It is by no means an exaggeration to call Mad Max: Fury Road a modern classic that other action films will probably have to measure themselves against for a long time to come.
The stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, who are extremely upset on set, also fit perfectly into this dirty, dusty world of madness where blood and gasoline reign. The Oscar jury also couldn’t escape the film’s engaging effect and gave Mad Max: Fury Road a remarkable rating six Oscars out of.
