Fake accounts and Swish scams – now the police are warning of a new blackmail method

– We have already deduced the first transfer to the summer of 2023, even though the report is new, says Filip Dahlgren, who is the preliminary investigation manager at the department for serious crimes in Linköping. This is how it works:

  • The fraudster creates a fake account, for example “Lisa” on Snapchat.
  • Via the account, nude photos are offered for a small payment to a specified number. The phone number belongs to the real “Lisa”, who unknowingly receives the payment.
  • The scammer requests a screenshot as proof of payment. Once the screenshot is received, the blackmail begins to hang the buyer out.
  • The fraudster then proceeds to request money to another number.
  • The blackmail may have been going on for a longer period of time

Some victims are afraid to report, and the blackmail may therefore have gone on for a longer time.

In the beginning of the extortions, Filip Dahlgren has seen sums from thousands of Swedish kroner to six-figure sums. And then probably rise.
