The Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (COJO) Paris 2024 did his accounts. And they are in the green. During its last board meeting this Thursday, December 12, the body will present its budget which stands at 4.5 billion euros, with a surplus of 26.8 million euros.

If the OCOG’s expenses have been revised upwards in recent months (+17% compared to forecasts) due, among other things, to inflation, revenues have also been higher than expected (+18%). With 12 million seats sold – a record – ticketing, for example, generated 1.3 billion euros in revenue (340 million euros more than expected). The contribution of the IOC or sponsors also explains these increased revenues.

The distribution of the surplus has not yet been recorded, but according to the statutes, a large part should be redistributed to the French Olympic Sports Committee (CNOSF) the IOC and to the development of French sport.

A bill estimated between 9 to 11 billion euros

However, we will have to wait to know the total bill for the Paris JOPs. If the budget of Solidéo, the organization responsible for delivering the Olympic sites is known – 4.4 billion euros (including 1.7 billion of public money) – other public expenditure, such as bonuses granted to police officers have not yet been integrated into the overall budget. The Court of Auditors must quantify these additional costs in a report expected in the fall of 2025.

According to initial estimates, the total cost of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games could be between 9 and 11 billion euros. This is a little less than the Tokyo Olympics postponed by a year to 2021, due to Covid (12 billion euros according to the Japanese authorities) or those in London, estimated at between 12 and 15 billion euros.
