Return to Syria continues 14 years of longing ended with

With the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria, Syrians who had been away from their country for years began their return journey. Exiled journalists also gradually returned to their hometowns. One of the symbols of this return was Dima Izeddin’s return to Syria.

“FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE”

Dima burst into tears and made an emotional statement, saying, “I am in Damascus for the first time in my life.” Dima said, “After 14 years of exile and deprivation, I am returning to Syria, Damascus. This is not a test story; it is the story of many journalists living abroad, even all of us.”

“IT IS VALUABLE TO BE HERE NOW”

Dima said that although they gained the attention and appreciation of the world media, they lost their presence in Syria. “All the world’s screens watched us, their newspapers welcomed us. But we were threatened, forced, exiled in Syria. Now, I finally feel how valuable it is to be here,” he said.

“May God bless you”

Dima concluded his words by saying “Thank you, God bless” for all the journalists who returned to their country after the overthrow of the Assad regime. This return became a symbol of the longing, struggle and rebirth of not only a journalist, but an entire people.
