The zombie series has an impressive rating average of 97 percent on the US review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. The Walking Dead, on the other hand, has a lower 79 percent. In the Moviepilot community, the French production is also one of the three best series of its kind with an average rating of 7.7. The Returned was also awarded the 2013 International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series excellent.
In contrast, the US remake The Returned only lasted one season and was rated much less favorably.
