FBI Director Wray said in a written statement, “After weeks of careful evaluation, I have determined that the right thing for the bureau is to continue my duties until the end of the current administration in January and then resign.”
Donald Trump, who is preparing to take over the presidency on January 20, nominated former Secretary of Defense Private Secretary Kash Patel to replace Wray as the director of the FBI, the main federal law enforcement agency in the USA. In the statement released by Patel today, he said, “I look forward to the smooth completion of the change of duty. “I will be ready to serve the American people from day one,” it said.
HE WAS APPOINTED BY TRUMP IN 2017
FBI Director Wray was appointed to the position by Trump in 2017. Wray, who was appointed to a 10-year term and whose term will end in 2027 under normal circumstances, lost Trump’s support in this process.
In an interview last weekend, Trump explained that he was not very happy with what Wray did, referring to the FBI’s raid on his home in Florida in 2022. In his statement about Wray, Trump said, “He raided my house. “He occupied Mar-a-Lago,” he said.
The FBI, under the management of Wray, also launched the most comprehensive investigation in FBI history against far-right groups and Trump supporters who raided the US Congress on January 6, 2021, and hundreds of demonstrators were arrested within this framework.
