Iran’s Supreme Leader: Syria’s Power Change Won’t Weaken Iran | News in brief

Iran’s supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad the fall of the regime does not weaken Iran.

It was Ali Khamenei’s first speech after ousting al-Assad. According to Khamenei, the weakening of the anti-Israel front in Syria makes Iran, on the contrary, even stronger. In addition, Khamenei scolded the United States and Israel for plotting against al-Assad.

Khamenei also blamed “another neighboring country of Syria” for its “self-evident” role in recent events, but did not name the country. Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey share a border with Syria. Among these neighbors, Turkey has long supported Assad’s ouster.
