The Islamist movement HTS in Syria announces that it has taken control of the city of Dayr az-Zawr.
The city has a population of 270,000 people.
“Our forces have taken over the entire city,” the movement said in a statement.
On Sunday, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, HTS, entered the Syrian capital, Damascus. And later the group declared that the time of the Assad regime is over.
During Tuesday, it became clear that the political foreground figures of the Islamist HTS militia will become the prime ministers of all of Syria.
Mohammed al-Bashir will lead a transitional government until March 1.
TV4 News’ Middle East correspondent Terese Cristiansson, who is on the ground in the Syrian capital Damascus, believes that many are worried about what will happen next.
– Many people I have spoken to are happy and satisfied and have longed for this. But there is also a huge concern. Will the country collapse or will the appointed prime minister get the authorities going, says Terese Cristiansson and continues:
– al-Bashir is close to the HTS leader, who was at the forefront of this entire offensive. He has quite a few Muslim and Islamist signs, and many are worried about that. al-Bashir is appointed because he will simply appoint a government with different ministers and get input intuition.

Now they push to get the intuitions going.
– To open banks, schools and other authorities. And it is clear that there are some who will not dare to go to work because they were loyal to Assad. But others will go there and get the authorities started so that the country will start rolling again
During the night of Wednesday, HTS announced that it had taken control of the city of Deir az Zaur in the eastern parts of the country. This means that the rebel group is consolidating its positions in eastern Syria.
“Our forces have taken over the entire city of Dayr az-Zawr,” the movement said in a statement.
The city of Deir az Zaur has a population of 270,000 people.
