Actor leaked animated film for Super Mario, but now sees other evidence that he is not allowed to be part of part 2

The Super Mario animated film is the world’s most successful video game adaptation and was well received by audiences. However, one actor will probably no longer be there in the sequel.

Who is it about? The actor, voice actor and comedian Sebastian Maniscalco played the boss of the main character in the Super Mario film. As Spike’s actor, he was also the first to talk about the film before it was officially announced.

In August 2021, about two years before the film’s release, Maniscalco was a guest on the Bertcast podcast (via YouTube). There he talked about his role as Spike in the Super Mario animated film. His leak hit the media at the time.

However, he will probably no longer play a role in the film’s sequel. But he doesn’t find the proof of this in the leak, but in cuddly toys.

Cuddly toys instead of leaks

What’s with the stuffed animals? Sebastian Maniscalco currently doesn’t believe that he will play a role in the successor to Super Mario. A trip with the kids to Universal Studios probably provided proof of this.

At the Super Mario store, Maniscalco wanted to show his children the character Spike as a cuddly toy, but everyone was disappointed. There was no merchandise for the villain on site, but there was for all the other characters in the film, the person concerned tells ScreenRant.

I was with my kids and I said, “Boys, come on. I’m going to show you Daddy’s character in the form of a stuffed animal.” No spike, no nothing. It stopped with me. Every other figure was there, just me, I have no animal, no stuffed animal, no nothing.

He continues: “The fact that I didn’t have a plush toy doesn’t make me very confident that I’ll come back for the sequel.”

Do you need a plush toy to know if you’re in a movie? You usually know whether you will be in a film or not a long time before the film is released. The example here is the first “Super Mario” film, in which Maniscalco was already involved in filming in 2021, even though the film was only released in 2023.

However, the voice actor himself confirms his suspicions once again: “I haven’t heard anything yet, so your guess is as good as mine” (via Screenrant).

The actor could actually well appear in the next part, after all, the sequel is supposed to take Mario and Luigi back to Brooklyn, where Maniscalco’s character Spike lives. The next Super Mario film is scheduled to hit Japanese theaters on April 24, 2026.
