WoW player moves you to tears with a tribute to her late father, but for many people: Please don’t imitate it!

Many players have experienced World of Warcraft with their parents or children. A daughter is now honoring her late father in a very special way that certainly not every WoW fan should imitate.

What did the WoW player do? On Reddit, 222kittymain reveals that she regularly played World of Warcraft with her father when she was ten years old. She has great memories of this time, which was only interrupted when the player went to high school.

Her father remained loyal to the MMORPG until his advancing dementia made it impossible to log into WoW. Only during the Covid pandemic was there another opportunity for 222kittymain and her dad to explore Azeroth together. He then died of lung cancer in February 2024.

A short time later, 222kittymain became pregnant. She gave birth to her daughter in November. Her middle name, “Amivanna,” is a tribute to her father, which was the same name as the shaman her dad played as the main character over the years.

In the post she explains that she realizes how strange and contrived this name must seem to many people. But she also knows that her father looks down on the small family and is extremely happy about this gesture: “I miss him every day, but I know that my father lives on through her. ♥️ And who knows, maybe she’ll become a gamer like him too!”

Another heartbreaking story from the WoW community was even made into a film:

How does the community react to this? The approximately 2,000 upvotes and around 200 comments show how beautiful many WoW fans find this tribute. But some also emphasize that you shouldn’t do this with every WoW character.

  • Rude_Watercress_5737 writes on Reddit: “Cute story… I doubt my son could ever do that with my WoW character… Chittywok.”
  • I_Can_See_Flowers explains on Reddit: “This is a beautiful tribute and thank God your father had a fitting name. From someone whose son is named after my husband’s Dwarven Paladin, I wish you and your family a lifetime of happiness.”
  • punnymama reveals on Reddit: “This is so cute! My mother no longer uses Grandma as a pet name, but rather the name of her paladin!”
  • isntthisneat expressed sympathy on Reddit: “My deepest condolences on your loss. Losing a parent is never easy. This is such an incredibly sweet and touching way to honor and remember him. Thank you for sharing this with us and congratulations on your little girl.”
  • SimplePanda98 is moved to tears: “Oh I didn’t know I was going to cry today, cool. Cool, cool, cool.”
  • Elenahhh is thrilled (via Reddit): “I love it.”
  • The names of the WoW main character from MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz would probably not be suitable for something like that. Before the server change, his undead villain was called Creep (with WoW Classic there was a new Creep). Since the server change, the sneaker goes by Sleazeball (translated roughly as scumbag or rascal). Also a story that moves you to tears: A heartbreaking story from the WoW community lands on Netflix
