Giant turnaround for Alvar Myhlback after weak start: “Catastrophe”

Alvar Myhlback has made an entrance at the World Cup.
But it has not gone at all as the 18-year-old had hoped for.
Now therefore comes a huge turnaround for Myhlback.

For several years have Alvar Myhlback been singled out as the great future of Swedish skiing and the salvation of the men’s national team. Expectations have been sky high for the 18-year-old who will get the chance at the World Cup this year.

Myhlback’s big goal

The big goal for the season is for Myhlback to write Swedish sports history as the youngest skier ever at the World Ski Championships. But this year’s start to the season has been unexpectedly tough for the blue-yellow super talent.

First he was not selected for the World Cup premiere in Ruka, then he got the chance during the weekend in Ruka. But then it was first a 58th place in the 10 kilometer race on Friday and 37th place in the skiathlon on Sunday.
– Last Friday was a disaster, but after that it was still a little better. The good thing is that I now get to see what I need to practice on, says Alvar to Expressen.
– As long as I am selected for the Tour de ski, the dream (of the WC) lives on. But right now I’m too bad for that. I’m going too slow. I know I can go so much faster, but the dream is not completely dead. We’ll see.

Turnaround for Alvar

Alvar Myhlback is now making a huge U-turn regarding the ski World Cup after the weak start to the season and reveals his uncertainty.
– I don’t want to represent Sweden in a WC and ski this badly, says the 18-year-old in the interview and has a plan for if he is not selected for the Tour de Ski.
– Then it will be the Junior WC. And then I go down to Europe and go far.

Which means that Myhlback turns to Ski Classics instead. But the Swedish national team manager Anders Byström is very clear that the giant talent still has a chance to reach the WC squad for Trondheim in February.
– Even if he doesn’t come to Davos next weekend but goes to the Scandinavian Cup instead, there are good opportunities to make it to the tour – and from there the WC road is open. He won’t give it up yet, says Byström to the evening newspaper.
