The internet child exploitation (ICE) unit received information in November from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that a local man was sharing child sexual abuse material on Snapchat, police said.
On Nov. 27, ICE members with a warrant searched a Blenheim residence and seized several electronic devices, police said.
“Through analysis of devices seized from the residence, police believe that the man was communicating with several child victims via social media applications including Snapchat, Facebook Messenger and Discord,” police said.
On Dec. 3, a Chatham-Kent man, 28, was charged with possessing, accessing and making available child porn and luring a person under 18, police said. He was held pending a bail hearing.
Chatham-Kent police are members of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet and investigate internet child exploitation offenses in partnership with other law enforcement agencies in Ontario and around the world, police said.
The local ICE investigations have led to the arrest of three other men this year on various child pornography charges.
The Chatham-Kent police ICE investigations are made possible by a grant from Ontario’s Solicitor General’s Ministry, police said.
