Stavås Skistad was washed out in the quarter-finals and then left the competition area in great dissatisfaction. She refused to give any interviews and received harsh criticism for it.
– It is not professional. You have to swallow your own disappointment, meet the media, say what went wrong and instead take the disappointment home. A clear sign of frustration and disappointment, I would say, said the Viaplay expert Johan Olsson in the broadcast.
Northug fights back
She often receives criticism for her behavior on and off the slopes. But now steps Peter Northug out and defends Kristine Stavå’s Skistad.
– She chooses to do it her way. I have to applaud that. We need people like her. Not everyone can be brought to justice when they have made a mistake. It gets boring, says Northug, who recognizes a lot of herself in Kristine, to the Norwegian newspaper Nettavisen and does not think that she is particularly affected by criticism from Sweden.
– I think she takes that in stride.

Even though the Norwegian skiing star already went out in the quarter-finals, Petter Northug is really impressed by what she showed in Lillehammer.
– Kristine seems to be in very good shape. That is the most important thing. I think a lot of people were surprised by her qualifying results. Normally I see her as someone who needs a few competitions to get in shape, but I spoke to her coach Lage (Sofienlund) who says she is stronger this year and you can already see that, he tells the newspaper.
– It seems that the capacity and form are there. Then it’s about finding the right training and focusing on the WC for her.
The Norwegian legend singles out Stavås Skistad as a great candidate for gold in the WC.
– She is our biggest candidate for gold in the sprint at the WC. If she is to beat Jonna Sundling, we need her in top form. Right now I think it can absolutely work. She was surprisingly good considering she’s been through surgery, Northug says in the interview.
