The billing takes place at the end (1970): Aging gold prospector Cable Hogue (Jason Robards) is left in the desert by his partners Taggart (LQ Jones) and Bowen (Strother Martin). Here he finds a saving spring, where he opens a rest stop and becomes rich by selling water. Now Hogue is just waiting for his ex-partners to return so he can take revenge on them.
Pat Garrett is chasing Billy the Kid (1973): Recently appointed sheriff, outlaw Pat Garrett (James Coburn) is tasked with killing gunfighter Billy The Kid (Kris Kristofferson) on behalf of a powerful cattle baron. Pat is conflicted about avoiding the duel with his old friend until he has to make a decision at some point.
