Gröna Lund is required to pay a fine after the fatal accident

The criminal investigation into the fatal accident at Gröna Lund is complete.

The amusement park and two additional companies will be required to pay heavy fines, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

On Thursday, the lawsuit will be brought against the three companies, for grossly causing the death of another, grossly causing bodily harm and causing danger to another after the accident at Gröna Lund 2023.

“The request is that the companies be ordered to pay among the highest corporate fines imposed in Sweden,” writes the Public Prosecutor’s Office in a press release.

The accident occurred in June last year, when the Jetline roller coaster partially derailed when a support arm on the underside of the leading carriage broke. Three of the passengers fell from the carriages during the accident. A woman in her 30s was injured so badly that she died. Another nine people were injured.

The two companies that, in addition to Gröna Lund’s suspicion, were involved in the manufacture of the support arm.

All three companies have denied wrongdoing.

“We do not believe that any crime has been committed within the scope of Gröna Lund’s operations and therefore we deny the accusations,” said the amusement park’s lawyer Jonas Tamm in a comment in September.
